Weekend Round Up: 11-12 November

Jimmy Irvine Bella 10k, Bellahouston Park – 12th November 2017

The ever popular Jimmy Irvine 10k was held on Sunday at Bellahouston Park. The race is hosted by Bellahouston Road Runners and has always attracted a good crowd of Harriers heading up the M8. This year was no exception as 14 Harriers raced on the day. The route changed this year, and everyone was sad to see the end of the nice downhill start. Issues with the local authorities meant that the race had to be contained entirely within the park this year, removing the loops on Mosspark Boulevard.

Overall, the times were slower than the previous years run, showing that the course was a good bit tougher. Chris Watson was first Harrier home this year in 38.48, but over a minute slower than his pb time of the previous year. Gordy Hepburn was second in 39.17 and George McCallum was third in  41.40.

Lorna Coyle was first female Harrier to finish and was 2nd v50 overall in a time of 46.00. Fiona McFarlane was second in 47.45 and Marianne McKay was third in 48.28. Fiona’s time was a one minute pb! Alex Patterson also managed a pb on the day in a time of 49.47! Well done guys.

Greenock parkrun – 11.11.17

Andy White was first Harrier home at Greenock parkrun and narrowly missed a pb by 2 seconds in 16.48. Andrew Osborne was next in 17.09 and John Stevenson third Harrier in 18.39. Both Lorna Coyle and Sue Hewitson came across the line in 22.45 to take first and second female places respectively.

Lucas Bezian continued his pb streak by finishing in 23.35 and new Harrier Claire Melville got her first pb since joining in 31.20. Young Ava Beaton got a pb of 24.49 running round with fellow young Harrier Katie Johnson who competed in the event for the first time.

Further afield, Emma and David Benstead ran at the notoriously tough Drumchapel parkrun. With David running it for the first time and Emma running a course pb! Nicola Stevenson ran the Ganavan Sands parkrun near Oban in a course pb for her of 23.40. Viki Smith ran at Linwood and Catriona Stirling slummed it at Curl Curl parkrun near Sydney (but I’m sure she would have preffered the below freezing conditions at Greenock…)
