At the Renfrewshire County Road Race Championships, there were great performances all round from the Harriers young athletes. In the girls under 11s race Ava Beaton led the team home finishing 8th after passing Sophie McLaughlan with the finish line in sight. The team finished 4th overall but can consider themselves unlucky not to take a medal after Maria McCabe was accidentally tripped at the start, but the youngster bravely picked herself up and moved from last place to half way up the field. Just behind Maria came Erin McEleny and Casey Trainer.
There was a strong turnout from the boys with all 10 closely packed at the end of the mile race. Aidan McElwee led the team home, and with counters Douglas Campbell and Nathan Adams they placed 5th.
The under 13 girls Ruby McGill, Katie Johnson and Francesca McKay claimed the Harriers first medals of the day taking Bronze. Backing them up was Abbigael Crawford who was much improved on last year.
Cameron Patton and Jude Dolan ran well to finish in the top eight, both dipping under 12 minutes for the two mile distance.
Harry McGill, Ewan Ferguson and Shaun Wiseman provided the days silver lining with a superb team showing to finish 2nd with all three boys having a marked improvement on 2017s race. Alyshia Singleton delivered a top 20 finish.
Ryan Brown put in another steady performance over 3 miles despite having to run on his own for most of the race after slipping off the main pack.
