Our couch to club runner sessions have not restarted after the Coronavirus pandemic. This was partly due to restrictions, but also the difficulty in finding a safe venue during the winter due to poor street lighting in Inverclyde. If we are able to restart in Spring 2022, we will advertise.

If you are keen to try a running session, please feel free to come along to our main sessions on a Monday or a Wednesday. These have a variety of ability from beginner right through to advanced. These can be tried for free for 4 weeks, and you will be made to feel very welcome.

Our Couch to Club Runner sessions take place every Tuesday night on Greenock’s Esplanade. We meet at the Boat Club near North Street at 6.10pm. These sessions are completely free and are aimed at anyone from total non-runners to those looking to get a bit fitter and faster. There is no obligation for anyone to join Greenock Glenpark Harriers, although some of our Tuesday night crew have already done so.

Please note that this group is only open to those who are 18 years old or older. Please see our website for info about training for younger athletes.

If you wish to come along to our Couch to Club Runner session please email us at to register your interest.

We will ask you to complete the a registration form before you attend:

We have a Facebook Group, search for Greenock Glenpark Harriers Couch to Club Runner. We also have a Strava group under the same name. The Facebook group is the best place to get regular updates and info about the group and we encourage all our runners to join this if they can.

Our sessions are usually split into 3 groups on the night depending on ability and experience:

Group 1 – “Just off the couch” – All new runners and anyone looking to get back into running
Group 2 – “Getting the hang of it”  – For those who have done some running and want to up their distance
Group 3 – “Almost a Harrier” – For those who have done some running and want to up their pace and endurance

Our classes are run on a completely voluntary basis by Steven Watson, Marian Monk, Malcolm McLean, Angeline Austin, Stuart Austin, Stephen Hanley, Lorna Coyle, Gerry Gillespie and Mick Harrington.
