🎄 Greenock Glenpark Harriers Annual Christmas Song Competition Results! 🎶

The results are in, and what a festive showdown it has been! After much anticipation, we’re excited to announce the winners of the Greenock Glenpark Harriers Annual Christmas Song Competition. With so many beloved tracks in the running, it was a close call, but here are the top contenders:

Taking the top spot with a massive 18 points is the perennial favorite, Wham’s “Last Christmas”. This holiday classic remains a fan favorite year after year and has once again claimed its place at the top.

In 2nd place, with 11 points, is Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You”, a modern holiday anthem that has become a staple in Christmas playlists across the globe.

3rd place goes to Shakin’ Stevens’ “Merry Christmas Everyone”, with 10 points. This cheerful tune continues to spread festive cheer every holiday season.

A special shoutout to the other top contenders with 6 points, including “Must Be Santa” by Bob Dylan, “Feliz Navidad” by Jose Feliciano, “Do They Know It’s Christmas” by Band Aid, and “Underneath the Tree” by Kelly Clarkson—each of these songs has earned a place in many Christmas celebrations.

It’s also worth mentioning the incredible 5-point finishes for “Stop the Cavalry” by Jona Lewie and “Step into Christmas” by Elton John. Classics like “2000 Miles” by the Pretenders and “White Christmas” by Bing Crosby also made their mark with 4 points.

But—and here’s the big talking point this year—the decision to ban The Pogues’ “Fairytale of New York” from voting has sparked outrage among many participants and voters. This iconic holiday track, which has been a Christmas staple for decades, was notably absent from this year’s competition list. The exclusion of such a beloved song has left many questioning the fairness of the rules and whether its absence has impacted the true festive spirit of the competition.

While there’s no doubt that the other songs are well-loved and deserving of recognition, the omission of “Fairytale of New York” has left a sour note for some. Hopefully, next year, we can see this classic included once again, so it can take its rightful place among the holiday greats.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s competition! We appreciate the festive spirit that everyone brought to the table and look forward to next year’s event.

🎄🎶Happy holidays from to all members and friends, near and far from all at Greenock Glenpark Harriers! 🎄🎶
