Sunday 26th November 2023
With the winter season well underway the Harriers have the opportunity to use their summer fitness in the few races available. On Sunday Glasgow and Edinburgh hosted the MoRun races, a series set up to support the Movember charity which aims to tackle men’s health on a global scale year round with a spotlight in November. Glasgow’s MoRun raised a great total of £6029.20. The conditions were favourable for the four Harriers who headed to Glasgow Green for the Half Marathon. It’s been a tough weekend of racing for some of the runners.
The Half Marathon runners set off first with Oliver Reilly the solo representative. Oliver had a busy weekend of racing having set a new 3km personal best on Friday at the 3k on the Green race, a hard parkrun on Saturday morning followed up with a half marathon on Sunday. The marathon man wasn’t sure how much more the legs could handle but with plenty of training behind him Oliver pushed on to take the win in 1:16:52, a well deserved win rounding off another fantastic year.
In the 10km race William, Liza and Debbie all lined up with 500+ runners to take on the flat race. William was first back in a new PB of 39:32, smashing his sub 40 min target and previous best 10km time. All the more impressive when William also ran his quickest 3km race of the year on Friday and a parkrun on Saturday. Sub 40 had been a target of William’s throughout the summer and it’s great to see all that training coming together. Next to finish was Liza Brydon who looks to have smashed the 10km race. Liza’s time of 47:49 was just shy of Brian Goodwin 10km time earlier in the year which shows the consistency that Liza has sustained this year. Adding to the success Liza was first in her age category. Debbie McKenzie continued her excellent form to finish in 49:28. Like the guys both Liza and Debbie also part in parkrun the day before.
Big congratulations to young Elijah Taylor who eclipsed his Dad’s performance to win the 1.5km junior race in an excellent time of 7:37. Elijah has been training consistently and it comes as no surprise to see him run so well. Well done Elijah!
