Race Round Up to August 2024

It’s been a busy few months for our runners representing the club over the last few months. We’ll publish more on the efforts of our Ultra Runners in a fuller report soon, but in the meantime here’s the selected highlights for those wearing the famous light blue and yellow vest across Scotland and beyond recently.

  • David Thomson set a new half marathon PB at the Sunset Running Festival at Silverknowes in Edinburgh on Saturday 6th July. As the four lap race of the prom continued, the weather changed from good to biblical rain! Undeterred, David actually increased his pace in the last few km to secure the 84 second PB. A great run for our newly qualified coach as he begins his training block for Amsterdam Marathon in late October.
  • Continuing the half marathon efforts, Jim Brannigan had a great run around Melbourne’s 21k distance in a fantastic time of 1:52 including a PB over the 20k distance.
  • The ever popular ‘Run The Blades’ 10k and Half Marathon took place at Whitlee Windfarm on Sunday 21st July and we had some strong results over the hilly course, with Malcolm MacLean – 46:20 Marianne McKay – 58:33 Charlotte McKay – 1:07:59 Alison Smart – 1:15:02 Lorna Maclean – 1:25:07. Over the longer distance, Paul Stewart did well with his time of 1:53:43. Finally, over the massive 50k distance, Wesley Pattison put in a fantastic shift over 4:18:29 to come in 13th place overall.
  • Viki Smith ultimately recorded a DNF after 46 miles of the Highlander Backyard Ultra; still an amazing effort.
  • St Cuthberts Way Ultra 100km saw John Logan power home in 3rd place! Despite his drop bags not being delivered to the points he managed to run his longest ultra yet to finish 3rd in a time of 12:19:43
  • Nathalie Smith continues to prove training really does pay off with her 2nd F40 placing at Acorn Trails Rouken Glen Park 8k trail race on Sunday 28th July. Over 1 minute PB from last year on a tough course and really hot conditions.
  •  Liza Brydon chalked up a great time of 1:34:32 over the Kenny Phillips 10 Mile RR Around Cumbrae
  • Kyle Johnston also keeps on getting better with his time of 16:32:16 at the GAA Miler Meet, 5,000m. Despite blustery conditions Kyle ran a really strong race and managed to hold off Natasha Phillips to finish 13th in his heat.
  • Rounding off the month, Sarah Jane Whalen had a great run at the 16th Annual Kilmaurs Gala 5k on Wednesday 31st July 2024 – result placings weren’t available at the time of writing.

Remember, if you’ve taken part in a race somewhere we’d love to hear from you – our membership is large and it’s difficult to keep on top of our members efforts everywhere, so dropping us an email or posting in our Facebook Group really helps us keep on top of the race reports!
