The Future’s So Bright You Gotta Wear Shades
Kicking off the AJ Bell Great Scottish run weekend, Saturday saw 6 Harriers juniors taken in the junior and mini races.
First up were the 9-11 year age group. This race saw Sam and Jamie Fulton and Lucy McFarlane in their first race proudly sporting the famous Greenock Glenpark Harriers colours. All three did the club proud over the 2.5k distance, as did Mila Killeen and Isabel Lafferty who was quickest Harrier in the day and placed 10th girl. (Isabel 12:35; Mila Killeen 13:53; Sam Fulton 13:57; Jamie Fulton 14:33; Lucy McFarlane 16:03)
Next up was the minis race over 1.5k. Leia Killeen put in a strong effort and turning on the jets with just over 100m to go to claim 3rd girl and a spot on the podium in a fantastic time of 7:22.
Sunday saw the 10k and half marathon event and again a strong presence from our younger athletes. Erin McEleny, Summer Taggart and Evie Harrison all represented the club in the under 20 age group and ran fantastic times. A special mention goes to Evie who bagged 5th under 20 female. Finally in the half marathon event Lewis McRae ran an outstanding race to finish 5th Under 20 (4th under 20 male) and Abbigael Crawford and Olivia Trainer took time out of their busy university schedules to complete the distance too. ( Olivia Trainer 1:58:35; Abbigael Crawford 2:26:50 Lewis MCrae (1:20:27)
Outstanding performances from all our young athletes as our junior section continues to go from strength to strength. Thanks to our Parents, Carers and Coaches for the continued support of them and their development.
