Harriers Take Centre Stage at Hyrox

The Scottish Event Campus (SEC) in Glasgow was alive with energy as athletes from all corners of the globe came together for the HYROX Glasgow 2025 event. This international fitness showdown, famous for its tough mix of running and workout stations, witnessed some incredible performances from the Greenock Glenpark Harriers.

In the Women’s Doubles category, Mhairi Biggart and Amanda Deeney completed their second HYROX event in a time of 1 hour 22 minutes, achieving a personal best of 8 minutes from their previous attempt. Mhairi and Amanda both joined the Harriers to improve their running as a huge part of the challenge is running focussed and showcased significant progress and determination.
Suzanne Dunn and Gill Orr, participating in their first HYROX, finished the female doubles category in 1 hour 28 minutes. Despite Gill battling the flu, the duo managed to achieve a sub-1:30 time, a milestone they were thrilled to reach. Their perseverance and teamwork were truly commendable and their achievement is captured brilliantly in their finishing photo.
Fiona MacFarlane and Heather Lafferty, a late pairing, performed brilliantly in the female doubles category, finishing in an impressive time of 1 hour 17 minutes. Heather’s first event and Fiona’s second saw them excel together, demonstrating their synergy and athletic prowess in a dynamic performance.
In the Women’s Singles category, Sue Hewitson, who took on her first HYROX at Glasgow last year, secured a 3rd place podium finish, in her age catagory, with a time of 1 hour 12 minutes, improving her PB by 5 minutes. Sue’s outstanding performance has earned her an invitation to the world championships in Chicago in June 2025, marking a significant achievement in her fitness journey.
Melissa Wilson, participating in her first HYROX, completed the singles event in an amazing time of 1 hour 27 minutes and 29 seconds. Her dedication and hard work paid off, as she crossed the finish line with a sense of accomplishment and pride in her amazing performance on the day.
In the Men’s Singles category, Mick Dunn achieved an incredible 1st place podium finish in his age group (65-69), completing the event in 1 hour 28 minutes. This marks the third consecutive year Mick has secured this age-grade position, demonstrating his phenomenal fitness level and consistency. MIcky’s performances across the year are an inspiration to those around him especially in his consistent and age defying finishes in our club races.
Kevin Begley, despite facing illness during his training, competed in the men’s singles event and finished in 1 hour 20 minutes, achieving a 3-minute PB. Kevin’s determination promises even better performances in the future, as he continues to overcome challenges and improve. His on going hard work
In the Men’s Doubles category, Johnny McIntosh and his friend Martin completed the race in a time of 1 hour 21 minutes and 8 seconds. Their teamwork and endurance were evident as they pushed through the challenging course.
Sean MacFarlane and Jason McInally finished the men’s doubles together in a fantastic time of 1 hour 7 minutes, showcasing their strong partnership and athletic ability.
Also special mention to Kevin and his wife Stephanie, who despite missing out this year due to injury, also found time to volunteer also.
The Greenock Glenpark Harriers’ achievements at HYROX Glasgow 2025 highlight their dedication and commitment to fitness. Their performances in this highly competitive environment are a testament to their hard work and perseverance.
