March 2026 Running Update 2
- Anglo Celtic Plate 100k Home Countries Championships, 21st March 2026 – A first Scotland vest for Glenpark’s Kyle Wilson was rich reward for his Ultra efforts in the last couple of years. Kyle had put in months of training to represent his country, but as every runner who tackles the longer distances knows, all it takes is one injury at the wrong time to derail your effort. Starting the race knowing he wasn’t fully fit, and toughing it out for 42 miles (!) the pain got too much and Kyle had to withdraw. Kyle said, “It broke my heart having to DNF and not getting to cross the finish line with that saltire flag in my hand and feeling that huge sense of pride I badly wanted to feel and experience. But anyone that knows me, knows I would never quit because things just got hard and iIll battle through any pain. But my legs just were not working anymore. Overall I loved and enjoyed the experience of being part of the Scotland team. It was an honour to be part of the team.”
Kyle did the club proud and vowed to come back stronger: “I will do everything possible to get back in that Scotland jersey again and right this wrong – and show my true capabilities in a Scotland vest with the proper preparations and being injury free. Not done, just getting started.”
- Barcelona Marathon, 15th March 2026 – Another marathon, another PB for David Thomson – Barcelona is a flat, fast urban course around the historic city which lends itself well to those looking to record a fast time, and David once again posted a brilliant run, getting around the course in 3h12m38s. In the ladies race, Jill Turner had a storming run for 4h23m.
- Paisley Half Marathon, 22nd March 2026 – A big representation from the club saw 15 runners wearing the blue and gold vests around the streets of Paisley. First home for us was Alan Henderson (1:15:17), a brilliant run securing 7th overall and 3rd V40. William Taylor got round in a new pb time of (1:24:48), 6th V40. Excellent to see Stuart Austin back at it with (1:42:11), 12th V50. Gordon Robertson (1:47:20) secured 2nd in the V65 grouping, Sue Lassman was 6th V50 female with (1:52:37); Nathalie Smith (1:53:10) 7th FV50 and Steven Smith (1:53:21) 8th V60 male. They were followed in by Rebecca McCluckie (1:54:33), Campbell Macfarlane (1:54:41) and Leona Donnelly (1:58:11) and the last Harrier under the two hour margin was David McDiarmid, chip timed at (1:59:13). The Harriers representation was completed by Terri Wall (2:00:33) 2nd FV60; John Green (2:09:24); Alli Baird (2;25:57), and Jenna Lee (2:25:28) going over the finish together. Well done all who took part!
