Summer Running Update – Charlotte for Scotland, John retains K12 Ultra Crown!

Charlotte for ScotlandCharlotte McKay Earns Scotland Vest at Masters Inter Areas Track Championships

Charlotte McKay’s running journey reached a new milestone on Sunday 2nd August, when she represented the Scottish Veteran Harriers Club (SVHC) at the Masters Inter Areas Track Championships in Yate, England. Competing in the V70 category, Charlotte lined up for the 1500m (her first ever full track race) and was proud to pull on a Scotland Vest for the first time!

Charlotte has enjoyed another outstanding season, adding national medals to her growing list of achievements. Now, she can add the honour of wearing a Scotland vest – something she never imagined possible, especially at her age category. The race itself featured world record holder Sarah Roberts, giving Charlotte the chance to test herself against one of the very best in masters athletics. Charlotte recorded a finishing time of 8:21:06.

As a bonus, SVHC presented Charlotte with a medal after the race – recognition not just of her performance on the day, but of the years of commitment that led her there.

Charlotte was keen to express her gratitude to fellow Glenpark Harrier Andy McCall, whose support and encouragement have really helped in her getting to the start line

Charlotte’s achievement is a proud moment for her, for GGH, and for Scottish masters athletics. Representing your country is special at any age – but doing it for the first time in your seventies is truly inspirational.

K12 Ultra / Sunday 2nd August

The 4am wake‑up proved well worth it as John Logan successfully retained his K12 Ultra Marathon title on Sunday 2nd August. Cheered on by his wife Nicola, son Isaac (and of course Couper the dog), John lined up despite having focused on marathon training earlier in the summer – a 12‑hour endurance race not the perfect follow‑up.

The event offers both 6‑hour and 12‑hour options, with runners completing as many 4km trail laps as possible within the allotted time. The course loops around a roughly 4km circuit of mixed terrain – mostly pathed sections through the park, with several testing hills thrown in. The runner who covers the greatest distance before the clock runs out is the winner.

John once again outpaced last year’s runner‑up, though the battle was far tighter this time. Both athletes logged fewer kilometres than in 2025, but the finish was nail‑bitingly close: John completed 27.5 laps (110km), edging out Richard Harkin’s 27 laps (108km).

Another outstanding effort from John – champion again, and still setting the standard.

Kilpatricks Kaper / July 2026

Viki Smith completed the Kilpatricks Hill Race in 52:46. The race starts with a short run along the tarmac before winding along a narrow path to the most Westerly point of Slacks Ridge. Then the route takes you to the summit via a choice of paths. A sharp right turn sees you heading south through the summit bog until you find the rapid descent down to the cattle-grid and final blast down the road. Sorry, couldn’t source any photos for this one.
