Absolute Beginners Returns!

We’re delighted to be resuming our popular Absolute Beginners Sessions, every Friday from May 1st to October 2026.

These weekly sessions are designed as a friendly, confidence‑building entry point for anyone who wants to start running but isn’t sure where to begin. The emphasis is on creating a relaxed, no‑pressure environment where complete newcomers can learn the basics at a comfortable pace. Sessions typically focus on short, manageable run‑walk intervals, simple technique tips, and steady progression – all supported by experienced Harriers coaches and volunteers who know how to make first‑time runners feel welcome rather than overwhelmed!

The sessions are for adults of all ages, backgrounds and fitness levels, and the atmosphere is encouraging rather than competitive. New runners get the chance to build fitness gradually, meet others on the same journey, and enjoy the social side of running as much as the physical benefits. Simply discovering that running can be enjoyable, sustainable and shared is a great motivator, and we’re proud to be offering these sessions completely free for anyone who wants to join in. We hope they will be an entry point for people to get involved – last year, Absolute Beginners Sessions became the first step for many people toward joining our wider club training, club races, entering local events like Greenock parkrun,  the Port Glasgow 10k – or even large scale events like the Great Scottish Run!

  • Meet at: Battery Park Middle Gate
  • Fridays 5.30pm – 6.30pm from May 1st 2026
