Brian Goodwin Memorial 10k – Friday 19th June 2026
An increasingly popular event for a Friday evening, Bellahouston Harriers Brian Goodwin 10k race starts and finishes at Cartha Queen’s Park RFC and is staged over a two-loop course largely inside the scenic grounds of Pollok Park. The course route is officially certified and benefits from traffic management controls which ensure that all sections run outside the park will be on traffic-free roads. Once again, a fine summer evening greeted the Harriers runners at the starting pens – the days earlier rain clearing up nicely for some decent conditions.
Fresh from his first club race win the previous weekend, Daniel Doherty was first home for the club – his time of 35:10 a new pb over the 10k distance and also first in his age V45 category. Duncan Anderson (38:22) and William Taylor (39:56) were the only other Greenock men to go under 40 minutes. Owen Atkinson continues his impressive return to fitness with a solid 40:39, and Donald Shaw scooped 3rd in the V55 category with (40:49).
For the ladies, Evie Harrison is another Harrier coming back to fitness after a period out injured and the U20 runner had a good evening at Pollok Park, her time of 42:42 putting her 1st in the age group. Lynne Harrison took 3rd in the FV50 with (47:53) just ahead of Jill Aikman (47:43) in the same category – notably, the race is decided on Gun Times meaning Lynne’s GT48:30 put her ahead of Jill’s GT48:41 – showing the benefits of tactical edging toward the start line before the off!

Port Glasgow 10k – Sunday 21st June 2026
In a strange turn of events, this year’s Port Glasgow 10k took place in very unusual circumstances – full bright sunshine! For the first time in several years runners taking on the looped out and back route did not have to battle through monsoon conditions, and adding to the well organised and marshalled new route led to some great running from the Harriers taking part. Unfortunately, as its technically classed as a fun run, the results don’t represent age category placings, only junior or senior.
With Inverclyde’s John Bell the clear favourite and eventual winner, it was great to see Harriers U20 speedster Dee Waka put in an outstanding run for second place overall, and a clear winner in the U20 category with his time of 33:04 a good five minutes ahead of the second place under 20 runner. Greenock had a strong field out for this one, with Alan Henderson (36:01) and Oliver Reilly (36:46) both comfortably under 37 minutes for 6th / 7th overall. There was a good group of Harriers working together throughout the the race, Owen Atkinson (40:24), Matthew Deegan (40:33), Andrew McKenzie (40:36), Stephen Harrison (41:04), Don Shaw (41:23), William Taylor (41:38) and Gordy Hepburn (41:29) taking up positions 17 to 23 – admirably paced by non-competitor and new club champion Stephen Trainer, running alongside with shouts of encouragement while out on his Sunday training run. Scott Beveridge picked up a new pb with (44:43) and Alan Robertson followed up his Friday effort with 45:30.
For the ladies, Liz Gemmell (49:08) took 7th female overall and Lynne Harrison also managed the sub 50 despite feeling the effects of the Brian Goodwin, her time of (49:26) enough for 9th place. Cheryl Thomas was third Harrier home in (52:48) and Debbie McKenzie the other lady under the hour in (54:35). A big shout out to Claudia Walker and Jenna Lee, both finishing in (1:06:29) – both ladies joined the club from our Absolute Beginners group last year, and you can see the joy they get from their running!
Again, lots of great running across the morning, too many to list everyone – Full Results HERE.
