The 33rd British and Irish Masters Cross Country International Championship took place recently in Santry, Dublin. The club are proud to announce that four of our members; Shaun Lyon, Paul Monaghan, Graham McGrattan and Neil Lafferty were selected to represent Scotland.
The course in Dublin is always a great location for cross country events. Participants were made to feel very welcome and accomplished before the race even started.
The GGH athletes qualified for their Scottish vests after battling it out in a selection race at Tollcross Glasgow, just a few weeks beforehand. With the standard getting higher and higher each year, winning a team place and Scottish vest is therefore becoming even more coveted.
Best performances of the day came from Paul Monaghan (29:53) and Graham McGrattan (24:46 – slightly shorter course) who won bronze team medals in the M50 and M65 categories respectively. Neil Lafferty (29:27) secured 2nd counter place in the M45 team which finished 4th, whilst Shaun Lyon (29:03) who was first home for the club, didn’t manage to secure a counter place in the highly competitive M35 category.
