Chisholm Mile 27th May 2025
Race sponsored by Cappielow Car Sales https://www.cappielowcarsales.co.uk/
Held on 27th May 2025, the jewel in the crown of the Greenock Glenpark Harriers race calendar(other races are available), the Chisholm Mile is a true test of speed and mental endurance. Pacing the mile just right to go as fast as you dare to ensure you get to the end with something left for a strong finish. This race differs as all entrants run at the same time. The seniors and juniors all run at the same time and this race more than any other I feel envelops the family feel of our club with the 100+ vests on the Greenock Esplanade and the numerous supporters, volunteers and spectators that line the Splash from start to finish supporting all runners to achieve their best.
Every year the call is made in which direction the race is going to be run dependent on wind direction, and this year it was to be run from the Boat Club to Campbell Street with the start marked out by our newly acquired, inconspicuous club flags. As it turned out the weather was perfect on the evening and despite the earlier rain it dried up and the sun even managed to shine for the race.
The race was won by Dylan Crawford with Neil Lafferty and Andrew McCall making up the top 3. In the ladies race Summer Taggart was first home, closely followed by Evie Harrison(so close they were given the same time) with third place going to guest runner Kira Mitchell. Third Harrier lady home was Melissa Wilson in 6.00.

The Chisholm Mile – In Memory of Ian Chisholm
The Chisholm Mile is run each year in memory of Ian Chisholm – Ian was a larger-than-life character, a Policeman, known for his distinctive, exaggerated running style and his dedication to training along the Esplanade.
Tragically, Ian collapsed and died while out training one morning near the Boat Club. In his memory, his widow Jean donated a trophy and the club inaugurated the Chisholm Mile in 1987. The first race was held on April 4th that year and won by Tony Curran in a gale-force wind, clocking 4:11.
Originally run on the road, the race was moved to Battery Park in 2001 due to environmental works and has since settled on the pavement of the Esplanade — Ian’s old stomping ground
