Flat ‘n Fast 3

The third edition of the Fast ‘n Flat 5km races proved to be another success with race organisers going back to the original plan of racing on a late summers Friday evening. This year three Harriers lined up on the quickest 5km race in the country.

The race consists of 5 laps of the pan flat cycle circuit in Lothian. With spectators lining every inch of the course it’s a phenomenal experience and event if you are looking to get your 5km PB.

Ahead of his New York Marathon, Oliver Reilly has been getting back into some seriously good shape. Oliver set out with the sub 17 group and maintained excellent splits throughout each lap. Our marathon man went on to smash his Personal Best with an excellent time of 16:40, taking 19 seconds of his previous best in 2023.

Competing in the same race was club mate Paul Monaghan who is also coming into form once again. Paul set off feeling good and maintained target pace for the first 2 kilometres. Unfortunately Paul started to feel the effects of a big training block and recent races as the legs started to feel heavy. Despite this, Paul managed to finish in 17:06 making it his quickest 5km since 2023.

Competing for his University, Harry McGill earned his place in the elite men’s race. Harry has been in outstanding form of late and it was only a matter of how much time he would take off his previous PB set at the Scottish National 5km race in 2023 (15:27). Twenty one men went under 15 minutes in the same race which helped to pull Harry along to a new PB of 15:21!
