Glasgow Green Winter Warmer

The Glasgow 10k and Half Marathon Winter Warmer Run

On February 2nd, seven hardy Harriers travelled to Glasgow Green to compete in the annual Winter Warmer event. This has historically been a lot more wintery than warm, with snow, hail and ice often making an appearance – not this year though, with the magnificent seven treated to a balmy 6 degrees!

10k Race

In the 10k race, our fab 4 females put on a masterclass in working together. Ashley Anderson and Melissa Wilson set out in tandem for the majority of the first lap, just ahead of Liza Brydon and Lauren Boyce who adopted a similar approach.

Ashley would continue her recent fine form with a time of 45.28. Running a negative split can be tricky in this race with congestion becoming a challenge in the latter stages, but not so for Ashley who picked up the pace and finished 23rd Female. Melissa also had a fine run, finishing not far behind in 47.29 for 33rd Female. This was encouragingly close to PB form for both ladies, who look set to feature heavily in our stacked Female Championship over the remainder of the season.

Liza, who was on the comeback trail after some recent niggles and illness, was next home in 52.21, placing 4th in her age category in the process. Lauren, in training for her first marathon and commendably sticking to her plan, would cross the line shortly after in 53.21, with both ladies judging their pace well to also record negative splits.

Half Marathon

Turning to the males, a superb run from William Taylor saw him finish 2nd V40 Male, and 21st overall in the Half Marathon. William has been flying recently and took 4 minutes off his PB, speeding round in 1.25.33. Motivated by getting back down the road in time to see Elijah storm round in the RRR, William’s form is sure to leave a few sweating ahead of the Willow Bowl – whatever they’re teaching him in Watopia on Zwift, it’s certainly working.

Next over the line was David Thomson, in a time of 1.33.35. Like many, David was using this race to gauge where he was at for the year ahead, and was happy to come away with both a PB and room to improve.

Kevin Begley was the 3rd Harrier competing in the Half, and the 3rd to cross the line with a PB. Like William, Kev shaved 4 minutes off his previous best, coming home in 1.40.31 – a time which is sure to come down when he refines his toilet strategy!
