Scottish National League

Glenpark Harriers Simon Okiti continued his rich vein of form at the weekend contesting both the 100m and 400m at the Scottish National League in Grangemouth.

Competing in the fastest 100m heat Simon proved his early form was no fluke as he was up and away with the gun and forcing his way into the top places going through the 50m mark, a new found strength over the final part of the race saw Simon cross the line in a dead heat for the second place however recording a new lifetime best stopping the clock in another sub-11 second run.

Later in the day Simon moved up distance to the longest sprint, 400m, with an outside lane Simon set of and was soon into his running on the back straight where his pace judgment defied his inexperience as he was smoothly through half way in a top position. Hitting the home straight Simon was fighting for a podium spot and drew on his endurance programme to carry him over the line in a bronze spot and a fabulous lifetime best of 49 seconds, joining the very small club of local athletes who have recorded the magical sub 50 seconds for the long 400m sprint.
