Glenpark on Track for Gold at Emirates Arena

The Scottish National Masters Indoors event, held over two weekends, brought together athletes from across the nation to compete in a variety of track and field events. The race was held at Glasgow’s iconic Emirates Arena, a venue renowned for hosting world-class athletes and set to host the Commonwealth Games in 2026.

The atmosphere was buzzing, with athletes of all ages competing across various event. Neil Lafferty showcased his talent by winning the Scottish National Masters Indoors 3,000 metres race, earning the title of Scottish V45 champion. From the moment the gun fired, Neil took the lead and never looked back. He steadily increased his advantage over Ayr Seaforth AC’s Kenneth Neil, who also ran a commendable race to secure his first National medal. Neil finished a remarkable 28 seconds ahead of his closest rival. This title adds to Neil’s impressive performance last weekend in the 1500m, where he collected a silver National medal. In the 3,000 metres race, Neil clocked an incredible time of 9:21.02.

Neil’s club mate, Andy McCall, also competed in the V35 category in the first 3,000 metre race of the day. Andy aimed to set a new personal best and was delighted to cross the line in a new PB of 9:19.01, finishing just outside the medals in 4th place, but an amazing performance all the same as Andy continues to go from strength to strength. The Scottish National Masters Indoors event was a resounding success for Greenock Glenpark Harriers, with Neil Lafferty and Jill Cox leading the charge securing three National medals across the two weekend events. Their achievements, highlight the athlete’s dedication and talent and show a growing strength and depth in the harrier’s ranks.
