Gold Medals for John and Simon

Scottish University Champion!

Simon Okiti of Glenpark Harriers became the Scottish University 200m Champion at the Scottish Student Sports National Indoor Track & Field championships.

The fastest local athlete was crowned Champion after three rounds of 200m. Carrying the additional pressure as the favourite after his impressive performances recently, Simon cruised through his heat to reach the semi-final. With a more determined start in his semi-final, Simon powered down the back straight before relaxing into the final bend and home straight, stopping the clock as the fastest qualifier for the final.

As the gun set the athletes off in the final, Simon exploded to life, catching the athletes on the outer lanes in the first 100m as he accelerated into the home straight with a considerable lead, he crossed the line victorious in 22.1 seconds, his first National title secured.

Simon heads south in the coming weeks to finalise his winter races before preparation for a similar outdoor season in the summer.

Gold and Silver for John Logan at the Scottish Masters Indoor Championships

Sunday 8th February – following on from a fantastic performance in the morning at the RAAA five mile road race where he helped the Greenock Glenpark Team to a team silver, John Logan went straight to Glasgow to compete in the Master indoor championships. Despite the efforts of the morning run, John secured gold in the 800m (2m22s) and silver in the 1500m (4m42s) in the v35 category.

Two National medals and a county medal all in one day – brilliant running from John!
