March Running Update

The famous blue and yellow vest have been spotted all around the country as the we head into spring!

  • 55th Allan Scally Road Relays: Saturday 28th February: A mixed team of Michael McLoone, Stephen Harrison, Fiona Macfarlane and Lynne Harrison headed up to Glasgow Green to take part in the Allan Scally Road Relays this year, one of over 200 teams taking part, sadly mixed teams do not have a Vet category or the 14th place might have been higher!

  • Josh takes on UK Champs at Nottingham:

Josh Deegan competing for Scotland West at UK Champs, the firsat GGH junior in 20 years to do so n- Josh became the first Harrier in 20 years to be selected to represent Scotland West at the prestigious UK Inter Counties cross country championships in Nottingham last weekend. 15 year old Josh, in his first year in athletics has raised the bar once again for the Harriers ensuring that local juniors are gaining recognition
for UK competitions. After a successful few weeks where Josh has performed at the West District, Scottish National & Scottish inter-counties cross country events, coupled
with his dominationg local road race victory to claim the Renfrewshire title, these performances gained the attention of selectors to represent Team
Scotland West at the UK Championships. With the trip to Nottingham & competing against the best juniors in the UK the experience would open a new more demanding level of competition for Josh. Undaunted by the occasion Josh set of with 400 other athletes covering the 3K cross country course. As the race progressed Josh managed to untangle himself from the massess keeping close to his team mates, reaching the final stages of the race Josh found anothetr gear to come home with a creditable performance & learning experiences which will stand him well in the coming weeks as he approaches the summer track season.

  • Queens Park 10k: New(ish) Harrier David Harris has been training hard at the track and put that to good use in the Queens 10k, getting a new pb with a chip time of 54:58

NU LIMITS Highland Challenge:
Viki and Andy Smith headed up to the highlands to take on the Nu Limits Running 8 hour challenge, taking on as many 4.366 mile loops as possible. Andy managed to complete five loops, whereas Viki soldiered on for a full 10 loop effort – a brilliant effort which secured gold position!

William Taylor, Melissa Magee and Nathalie Smith showed up for the Harriers for this one, and all put in some great times on the day:
