What a busy weekend of racing for the Harriers across the country. We’ve already reported on our club race, the Willie Jukes 5 miler, track sprint races and a bumper marathon report to follow.
Silverknowes National 5km Road Race
On Friday night attention turned to the East as the National 5km road champs took place at Silverknowes. Continuing his impressive form, Kyle Johnstone raced himself to a new 5km Personal Best time of 16:23 in a hugely competitive field. Kyle finished 139th and 12th U20 in Scotland. Incredibly over 180 runners finished under 17 minutes in the race which shows the strength and depth in Scotland at the moment and Kyle is establishing himself as one of the top U20’s in the country. Both Harry and Ruby McGill also took on the race for their University teams with Harry running a sensational 15:36. It’s great to see Harry going from strength to strength. Ruby will have had the biggest bragging rights in the McGill household with another incredible run clocking 19:32 for 10th quickest U20 female on the day. Ruby’s was rewarded with a hugely well deserved silver National team medal for the University. Well done to all three runners who have come through the GGH junior ranks with all three recording personal best times over the distance.
Tiree Beach 10km
The following morning as the majority of runners were thinking ahead to lunchtime racing, Fiona and Sean headed to the beautiful Hebridean Island of Tiree and took on the local 10km beach race. With official results still to follow it looks like Sean ran a brilliant race finishing in 47 minutes with Fiona taking the top female spot, winning the race in a time of 47:19. It looked like a close race between the Macfarlane’s on the day.
Neilston Pad Trail Race
It wouldn’t be a weekend without our John Logan taking part in a trail race and of course getting on the podium once again. This time John finished 3rd in the East Renfrewshire Neilston Pad race, part of the Neilston show, which looked to have a bit of everything, hills, mud, trails and road. John finished in 29:26.
Dick Wedlock Memorial Fire 5

Bellahouston Park 10km
