Greenock Glenpark Harriers made the trip to Campbeltown for the scenic Mull of Kintyre Half Marathon and 10K, with both races setting off together in fine early conditions but as the miles passed and the sun strengthened, runners had to contend with increasingly warm conditions across the course.
The event once again delivered on its reputation for combining challenging running with spectacular scenery. For the half marathon competitors, one of the standout sections came as the route wound through the stunning Machrihanish Dunes Golf Course before taking runners onto the beach itself, offering incredible views and a memorable but demanding stretch underfoot.
In the Half Marathon, Robert Dolan produced a strong performance, crossing the line in 1:46 in the Male V50 category, Jill Aikman finishing 3rd in her age category not far behind in an excellent time of 1:53, other notable performances where Lorna MacMillan in 2:12 and Jay Dunning in 2:50.
In the 10k race Robin McAuslan put in an impressive 46:37 finishing 3rd V60 overall and Gerard Robertson in 54:18 finishing off the GGH members who had made the worthwhile trip down for an excellent goody bag, medal, pastries and sandwiches at the finish.
Thanks to Bob Dolan for the report!
