Newton 10k Road Race

Saturday 8th November 2025

Teamwork made the dream work at the Newton Road Race 10K on Saturday, with 8 Harriers making the trip through and two returning home with PBs.

This annual event – held in memory of NRR member Cat Gaskell – continues to grow in size, with Saturday’s race certainly taking place in warmer conditions than previous years. Stephen Hanley was the first Harrier over the finish line. Stephen had ran well in last week’s club race, but was unsure of what could be achieved in Newton after limited recent training. He set out aggressively, before fading to a still respectable time of 38:46. Steven Smith was next home, and happy to finish his last race of the year in a reasonable time of 45:06.

With a week in La Santa fast approaching, Robin McAuslan (46:13) and Stephen Reid’s (47:09) racing year is far from over; both gents ran well despite some challenging underfoot conditions on parts of the route. Fireworks were to follow… It would be an 8th of November to remember remember for Aidan Coyle (48:15), who took an incredible 53 seconds off his PB – set just 5 weeks prior at the Great Scottish Run. Aidan has shown great resilience on his comeback from injury, and was paced well on the day by clubmate David Thomson (48:15).

Also setting a new Personal Best was Elaine Medinelli (56:35). Elaine is in fine shape having delivered an excellent training block for her recent marathon, and it’s great to see her now reaping the rewards with an excellent 10k time. Elaine was expertly supported by fellow Harrier Viki Smith, who must have wondered where the remaining 175km was when she crossed the finish line in 56:36.

Thanks to David Thomson for the report!
