Renfrewshire 5 Mile Road Race

Sunday 4th February saw a turnout of 134 runners for the Renfrewshire 5 Mile Road Race.

This reasonably flat course comprises an out-and-back from the Battery Park to the end of the Esplanade.

First in the Men’s under 20 category was Shaun Wiseman (31:04).

First Senior finisher in the Men’s race for the club was Dylan Crawford (26:49) in 7th place. Next in was Oliver Reilly (27:56) in 15th place. Greg Luke (31:41) was our third Senior finisher in 23rd place. Matthew Deegan (32:02) was fourth club counter in 25th. Chris Watson (32:46) finished 29th.

Liz Heywood (44:20) and Nicole McAuley (44:27)  finished 11th and 12th in the Senior Ladies category.

Second place finisher in the MV40 category was Daniel Doherty (27:46), just 2 seconds behind winner David Henderson.  Next in, and all in the top ten in the category were Chris Mooney (29:12), Paul McAuley (29:23) and Duncan Anderson (29:24). Owen Atkinson (29:56) finished just ahead of 3rd placed Inverclyde runner Thomas Jamieson. Next in was Colin McKnight (31:44) in 16th place. Following in in 21st was Kevin Begley (35:32) with Mark Sullivan (35:41) and Sean McFarlane (35:46) securing the next 2 places. Euan Morrison (39:59) and Andy Smith (47:39) were the other two members competing for the club in the MV40 category.

Winning silver in the MV50 category was Paul Monaghan (28:48). Paul finished closely behind Robert Paterson of Inverclyde. Steven Campbell (30:40), Stephen Harrison (31:29) and John Stevenson (31:46) finished 4th, 5th and 6th. Next in was Stephen Reid (36:28) in 14th place. Stephen Fulton (40:20), Stuart Crawford (41:57) and Andy McIntyre (45:52)  were the other club representatives in the MV50 category.

Micky Dunn (35:05) ran a fantastic race in the highly competitive MV60 category to win another silver medal for the club. Micky was just ahead of Robin McAuslan (35:12) in 3rd. It was great to see Robin secure a well-deserved bronze medal after a lot of hard training and racing over the last few months. In fourth place was Stephen Campbell (36:05) followed closely by Graham McGratten (36:15) in fifth. Ian McKee (37:24) and Jim Cuffe (37:32) placed 7th and 8th ahead of three Bellahouston MV60 runners.

In the Ladies FV40 category, Fiona Macfarlane (37:24) won bronze behind Louise Ross and Anne Campbell of Bellahouston Road Runners. Marianne McKay (38:21) secured an excellent fourth place, whilst Nathalie Smith (40:30) and Sarah Jane Whalen (41:43) finished in 6th and 8th places.

Lynne Harrison (37:34) secured a creditable 4th place in a very fast FV50 category which was won by internationalist Allie Chong. Debbie McKenzie, who continues to improve finished in 5th place, with Jill Aikman (38:20) just 2 seconds behind in 6th. Helen Crawford (41:58) secured 8th place. Vicky Smith (47:40) and Mary Robinson (52:31) were the other club representatives in the FV50 category.

In the FV60 category, Charlotte McKay (49:44) finished in 6th place just a few seconds behind Bellahouston runners Terry Nimmo and Jaqueline Glass.
