Sunday 8th February 2026 – Renfrewshire AAA Road Race Championships
Another exciting day of racing took place on the Greenock waterfront as Inverclyde AC once again hosted the annual Renfrewshire AAA Road Race Championships, welcoming runners of all ages and abilities for a day of great competition, camaraderie and coastal views. The course is a fast and flat five mile out and back, looping around the Battery Park before heading along Greenock Esplanade, turning at the Campbell Street end before heading back to the Pavilion car park finish. A slight mishap with the course early on saw runners having to add an extra lap of the Battery at the end to make up the distance but thankfully this didn’t impact too much on the outcomes. As a bonus, the weather picked up considerably toward the gun and the recent easterly wind dropped to a mild breeze, giving us decent running conditions for the race. Greenock Glenpark Harriers had an impressive turnout of runners across the day, and this was reflected in a great showing in the medal tables.
SENIOR MEN – Our Senior men’s team ran superbly to take second place overall, with four of our counting finishers running the event for the first time, and five of the men picking up a senior county medal for the first time. First home for Greenock was the in-form Andy McCall, taking a brilliant six place in the senior race with 26:58. He was followed by John Logan (28:02) (John would go on to compete in the Master indoor champs in Glasgow later in the day, where he won gold in the 800m and silver in the 1500m – 2 National medals and a county medal all in one day!), new u20 runner Dee Waka (28:06), John Hampsey (28:23), and Graeme Percival (28:45).
U20 – Evie Harrison had a difficult race but dug in hard to finish in gold medal position with a time of (23:23). Dee Waka had a brilliant run for U20 silver in 28:06.
Mv50 CATEGORY – We had a clean sweep of gold, silver, bronze sweep in this category, with another sub 30 minute run from Steven Campbell (29:21) putting him well clear of the chasing pack for the gold medal. Next over the line was Club Captain Stephen Harrison (32:04), finding some form to take silver and medalling at this event for the first time. Taking bronze was Gavin Morrison (32:38), another fantastic effort from Gavin.
Mv60 CATEGORY – Another medal sweep in this category, with Michael McLoone running brilliantly once again to finish in the gold position with (30:49); Michael has been running really well recently and continued that form here, finishing well ahead of Robin McAuslan (36:02) in silver and Steven Smith (36:45) in the bronze position.
Fv50 CATEGORY – A brilliant run and lung-bursting finish saw Lorna Mitchell (35:20) nab gold, beating Giffnock North’s Hilary Carswell by ONE second at the line.

JUNIOR RACES
33 junior Glenpark athletes competed in the Renfrewshire road races at the Battery Park, picking up 4 team medals and 3 individual medals on a successful day of racing for the youngsters. In the first event of the day the u11s mile, Elijah Taylorâs fantastic effort saw him take 4th place, and with great backing from James Mooney and Leo Harkins, the team placed 2nd in the County. In the u11 girls race Lauryn McLaughlin surged to the front and dominated from start to finish to take Gold. Yasmin Muir and Fearne Hampsey were also in great form, the pair finishing strongly to win team Bronze.
The u13s raced over 3km, and it was a superb all-round effort from the girlsâ as they claimed an impressive team Silver. Stella McCabe, led the race early on, but tiring slightly saw her slip back to 2nd place. Iona Quigley ran another perfectly paced race finishing strongly in the 2nd half to claw herself up to 5th. The rest of the Glenpark girls were close behind, but it was Isabel Lafferty who was to be the final team counter. The u13 boys unluckily were just outside the medals in 4th, with Isaac Robin our top performer.
In the u15âs 3km race Josh Deegan won his first County title with a dominant display. His relentless pace gradually reducing the lead group until it was just down to him and Garscubeâs Max Connolly. In the final 400m Josh surged to go 4 seconds clear for a decisive victory. Also running well was Daniel Sharpe with a commendable top10 finish. Orla Trainerâs hard work over the last few months being rewarded with her best performance of the season.
In the final race of the day over 4km, Jonathon Lamont, Daniel Masalskis and Keiron Mullan secured team silver with a solid all-round display, with Lucy McGuiness â with a big step up in distance â just missing out in the medals with her 4th place.
