Crownpoint Stadium, Friday 24th April 2026
Greenock Glenpark Harriers secured an impressive second place on the medal table, trailing local rivals Cambuslang Harriers by just a single podium finish. On one of the warmest nights of the year so far, the four Harriers who travelled through to Crownpoint all returned home with National medals.
McCall Battles for Bronze
In the opening 10,000m heat, Andy McCall aimed to defend his V35 silver medal from the previous year. With the overall race winner, Fraser Stewart (Cambuslang), also competing in the V35 category and another rival in the subsequent heat, McCall faced an anxious wait for the final standings. Despite a spirited performance, a personal best from Shetland’s Neil Arthur pushed Andy into a well-earned bronze medal position in a time of 33:59.
Monaghan Dominates the V55 Field
The second heat saw the remaining Harriers take to the track. Paul Monaghan, whose recent disciplined training has seen him rediscover his competitive edge, made his intentions known from the gun in the V55 category. Dictating the pace early on, Paul broke clear of the field to clock a superb time of 35:05, securing the gold medal and adding yet another title to his growing collection.
Doherty Takes V45 Gold
Daniel Doherty arrived at the championships in peak form following months of rigorous base training. Competing in his first Masters championships, Daniel became embroiled in a tactical battle with a leading group. As the laps ticked down and others faded, it became a two-horse race between Daniel and Cambuslang’s Mark King. In a thrilling finish, Daniel recorded his second-fastest time ever of 35:44 to claim the National V45 title.
Debut Success for Harrison
Marking his track debut at this distance, Stephen Harrison had a clear plan in place to stick to a steady pace knowing a finish around the 40 minute mark would be a chance for a medal. Displaying his consistency over the 25 laps, Stephen executed his race plan well and his finish in 40:16 was rewarded with a silver medal in the V50 category, despite a tactical error at the start of the last lap.
