Fast weekend for Glenpark Sprint Trio
It was a blazing weekend for the Glenpark Harriers sprinters, with the trio of Simon Okiti, Harris Morrison and Josh Deegan all putting in season-best performances.
Leading the charge at Grangemouth was Simon, Inverclyde’s fastest male runner, who took on both the 100m and 200m events. First up was the 200m, a crucial test for Simon after a few weeks on the sidelines. He went out fast from the blocks, pushing around the bend and catching the athletes on his outside before hitting the home straight. Maintaining excellent composure as the finish line approached, he dug deep to cross the line in a season-best time of 22 seconds. Later in the day, Simon returned to the track for the 100m. Following a good start, he quickly reached top speed, moving through the gears to stride home and secure his second season’s best performance of the day.
In the 200m event, teammate Harris Morrison stepped down from his usual 400m distance to test his speed. Following a strong start, Harris powered towards the home straight. Sticking strictly to his race plan, he capitalised on his 400m endurance to drive hard for the line, stopping the clock at his second-fastest 200m time ever.
Earlier in the weekend, Josh Deegan travelled to the Livingston AC Open meeting to challenge himself in the 400m. Making his debut appearance in the longest sprint discipline, young Josh took a conservative approach over the opening 200m before bursting into life around the final bend. Striding confidently past the 300m mark, he launched a powerful drive for the finish, pulling clear of the opposition to claim a brilliant victory in his first-ever 400m race.
