Simon Excels at English Track and Field Champs

Simon Okiti continued his development journey as one of the fastest Scottish athletes after qualifying to compete over the 100m and 200m at the English Track and Field Championships.
Glenpark Harrier Simon made the journey South to compete against the best English athletes at the Commonwealth Games Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.
On day one Simon took to his blocks in the 100m and was not only faced by the fastest athletes in the UK, but a very strong headwind which put paid to fast times. However a steady start found Simon chasing down the leaders and despite a strong second half, he missed out progressing to the final rounds by a fraction of a second.
On day two, in his preferred 200m, Simon was off and running.  Executing an aggressive bend, Simon was among the leaders as he transitioned into the final straight and with a sustained speed level he was able to cross the line in a qualifying position for the later rounds with another sub-22-second run.
Aiming for a place in the final, Simon exploded from the blocks at the gun.
Emulating his previous round, Simon powered into the home straight among the UK’s fastest young athletes and was just pipped on the line for a place.
With Simon’s impressive runs this season, he has now secured a place to compete for Glasgow Jaguars at the UK National Athletic League and in the coming weeks will join another local athlete, Georgia Morrison, on the journey South once again to the Alexander Stadium.
