Simon Wins Scottish Unis Silver

Glenpark Harrier’s Simon Okiti confirmed his status as one of Scotland’s fastest sprinters, with an excellent silver performance in the Scottish University track and field championships.
Contesting the Men’s 200m on behalf of Glasgow University, Simon cruised through his heat and semi-final before setting his sights on a very fast performance in what was unusually calm weather at Grangemouth stadium.
As the gun set the country’s fastest students off, Simon was up and accelerating; reaching top speed early. As he negotiated the bend he was vying for the top places and with 80m to go he was clear in silver medal position. A strong last 50m saw Simon cruise home to claim his first Scottish Student medal in a new personal best of 22.1 secs; a time which sees him become the second fastest local athlete ever.
The club also had Harris Morrison representing West College Scotland in the Men’s 400m. A season’s best time over the one lap event was a solid start for Harris who is now returning to his formidable best.
