105 Track Marathon

The track marathon is proving to be popular with the Harriers. Each year we have runners taking part in the full series and the marathon. On a hot Sunday 31st March, Liza Brydon and Fiona Cushnaghan took on the 105 (and a half) laps of the track. This may sound daunting to most but the appeal of toilet stops whenever you want, fluids and nutrition on hand and you are never on your own appeals to many. Liza was first Harrier to cross the line with a brilliant time of just over 4 hours and taking 2nd female prize. This was to be Fiona’s 25th marathon and according to Fiona it was a hot one! Fiona was delighted to receive the award for  2nd overall in the series!

Results

Liza Brydon – 11th overall (2nd female), 4:04:32

Fiona Cushnaghan – 20th overall (8th female), 4:49:09

 Cobbler Hill Race

The Cobbler Hill Race on Saturday 13th April was the first of the Scottish Hill Runners series of races which attracted a huge turnout of the best hill runners in Scotland. With conditions lovely at the bottom, that soon changed as the runners set off and were greeted with gale force winds from 1,000ft upwards and driving rain (snow at the top). Andy McCall ran a strong race finishing 34th place.

Results

Andy McCall – 34th, 58:35

Kaim Hill Race

This mid-week  race on Wednesday 17th April attracted a strong field of Harriers who make the short journey to Fairlie. The race is a great introduction to hill running and provides a real racing challenge to the most experienced hill runners. The usual glorious spring evening greeted the runners as they set off with expectations high of good results. Andy McCall was first back from the club. After a strong climb he was left in no-mans-land with no one to chase which meant a more sensible descent than usual. Andy still finished with his second quickest time over 13 attempts at this race. John Logan had his first real experience of a hill race, sticking with the pace to the summit. Owen Atkinson’s experience on the hills paid off as he pulled John in but it was John’s fast finish that helped him to finish just a few seconds ahead of Owen. Daniel was next to cross the line, after a period of illness. It was great to see Daniel back on the hills and racing again. Micky Dunn, another who has competed in this race several times over the years ran another strong race. Clearly the training for the Hyrox World Championships is paying off finishing 3rd V60.

Results

Andy McCall – 7th, 30:33

John Logan – 19th, 34:09

Owen Atkinson – 20th, 34:17

Daniel Doherty – 41st, 39:17

Micky Dunn – 50th (3rd V60), 40:55

DAAA 10 Mile Road Race (inc West District Champs)

On Sunday 21st March, Harriers made the short trip across the Clyde to take part in the 10 mile race and represent the club at the West District champs. The event would usually attract more runners but with our club 10-miler so close to the race this year, it meant numbers were lower than usual. However, Oliver Reilly, Donald Shaw and Nathalie Smith ran excellent races and did the club proud.
