Scottish Veteran Harriers Club Clydebank 5k
Wednesday 24th June 2026 – A very warm and sunny evening met seven Harriers who made the short journey over to Clydebank for the SVHC Clydebank 5k, a fast four lap course looping around Clydebank’s factory estate.
The race saw an outstanding performance from Cambuslang Harriers Kevin Campbell, who set a blistering pace from the start and was in a field of his own for the duration, completing the distance in 13:50 – way ahead of the second place runner Oscar Coetzee (15:25). In such strong company it was great to see Club Champion Stephen Trainer put in a very strong performance, his time of 15:46 a highly creditable 5th place overall, where all of the top ten finishers recorded times below or at 16 minutes.
In 12th overall, Andy McCall was pleased with his time of 16:23, the sub 16.30 goal comfortably smashed. Daniel Doherty was next home, with another strong run – Daniel has been showing some terrific form of late and kept that going here, putting in a strong finish to go under 17 minutes with 16:53. Duncan Anderson did well for his time of 18:53 and was followed over the line by Stephen Harrison. Stephen started well on pace for his goal of sub 19 minutes but began to feel the effect of Sunday’s Port Glasgow 10k in the middle of the race, letting the pace slip a bit before rallying for the finish in 19:09.
Two ladies represented the club on the night – Lynne Harrison was running the course for the first time and was another runner feeling the recent Brian Goodwin and Port 10ks in the legs but went on to have a decent outing with 23:10, and the Harriers evening was completed by Charlotte McKay, the W70 runner going round in exactly 30 minutes – great stuff from Charlotte once again in a difficult evening for running.
Thanks to Peter McLaughlin for the photographs.
