Storm Kathleen and 70 mile-an-hour southerly winds didn’t deter over 50 Glenparkers who took part on Saturday’s gruelling 10 mile conceding handicap from Ashton Promenade to the Cloch Road end and back. Thankfully the wind was behind on the way back!
First home and winner of the conceding handicap was Stephen Harrison in a handicap time of 1:19:59. Just over 30 seconds behind was Paul McAuley. Lorna Mitchell was next in, just 20 seconds behind Paul. And with a cracker of a run in both the scratch and handicap, Dylan Crawford finished 1st overall and 4th in the handicap. Fabulous runs in both categories too came from Kyle Johnstone and Andy McCall finishing 2nd and 3rd overall (and 5th and 6th in the scratch race). Owen Atkinson, Micky Dunn, Colin McKnight and Steven Campbell made up the top ten overall handicap finishers who all completed the race within a 3-minute period – testament once again to an incredible job by the Handicap Committee.
First home for the Ladies was Jill Cox with a fantastic time of 1:04:59. Next in was Lorna Mitchell (1:12:54) followed by Ruby McGill (1:15:12). Liz Gemmell (1:16:11) worked really hard to finish just under a minute behind Ruby. Lynne Harrison was 5th in 1:19:14. Great runs followed from Sue Lassman (1:20:35) and Cheryl Thomas (1:21:27). Nathalie Smith is continuing to improve, finishing 8th in a time of 1:23:01. And just five seconds behind was Jill Aikmen in 1:23:06. Debbie McKenzie, Helen Crawford, Sharon Black, Jill Turner and Liz Heywood were the other Ladies who braved the storm to run great times.
In the Men’s scratch race, Oliver Reilly (1:00:53) finished 4th, just 15 seconds ahead of Paul Monaghan (1:01:08). Next in with a superb run was Paul McAuley in 1:02:04. Chris Mooney (1:03:05) was just over a minute ahead of Owen Atkinson, with Steven Campbell just 30 seconds behind Owen. Next in and scratch 10th was Andrew White who had an excellent run too in a time of 1:05:57.
