Weekend Running Update

Harriers around the country, early September!

Glenmore 24 Trail Race – Saturday 5th September 2026

Glenmore 24 is a 12/24hr trail race run by Rocket Events and held in the Glenmore forest outside Aviemore in the Scottish Highlands. Race director Bill Heirs was proud to have a gender split of 54% female this year! If you love a loop, you’ll love this event and two of our female club runners who love a loop, Cheryl Thomas and Lynsey Mooney, headed up to take part! Situated near Loch Morlich, the location is stunning and completely off road.

The route is a 4 mile loop starting at ‘The Hayfield’ then heading out on to the forest trails passing Loch Morlich. Each loop climbs 400ft. Runners can do as many loops as they want. The main race route is in full operation for 12/24hr hour with an option at 11/23hr to join a small 400m loop for the last hour. Runners place their tents/campervans/aid stations in the Hayfield where you can stop for food or a sleep on each loop.
Registering on the Friday night runners are invited to a pre race party in the marquee, this years theme being superheroes or cartoon characters of the 70s/80s.

The race then starts at 12 noon on the Saturday. It was a lovely day of weather for the Saturday, a rather wet overnight with some volunteers popping out in scary costumes in the dark and a dry Sunday morning for the lunchtime finish. Cheryl and Lynsey were both delighted to smash their expectations at this event! Lynsey had previously run 40miles in 24hr loop event in Inverkip earlier this year and Cheryl had never taken part in an event of this format before. A brilliant atmosphere with friendly runners all looking out for each other supported by an amazing volunteer crew. 1st male Andy Darling clocked an amazing 113.11 miles and 1st female (2nd overall) Karen Nicol clocked an equally amazing 111.56. No sleep for them!

  • Cheryl Thomas 61.78 miles (15 big loops and 8 small loops)
  • Lynsey Mooney 55.34 miles (13 big loops and 15 small loops)
