Belfast Marathon – Sunday 3rd May 2026
On Sunday 3rd May 2026 two GGH, Rebecca McCluckie and Jill Aikman undertook the 26.2 mile route around Belfast. The relatively flat route starts in the grounds of Stormont and winds it’s way around the city. It takes in many of the cities historic sites. Evidence of the turbulent past is experienced running along the peace line and many murals throughout the city. The finish is in Ormeau Park.
The Harriers started in chilly and drizzly conditions which did not last and it stayed dry and mainly overcast for the run. Rebecca had a great training program and was aiming for sub 4 hours 20 minutes which she absolutely nailed finishing in 4 hours and 9 minutes
Jill was attempting her first ever marathon and her training block had not gone to plan sustaining a tibial stress fracture 11 weeks ago. Initial 5 weeks of rest followed by the “Jeffing” approach to increasing distance during recovery meant that Jill was apprehensively ready to tackle the route.
Completed it in 4 hours and 17 minutes.
