West District XC Relay Championships 2026

West District Cross Country Relay Championships WEST XCR (Incorporating Masters Championships)
Ayrshire Athletics Arena, Queens Drive, Kilmarnock, KA1 3XF
Saturday 10th October 2026

Perfect conditions greeted a record turnout of Greenock Glenpark Harriers at the West District Relays, marking the start of the 2026/27 cross-country season. A mild afternoon brought a little of everything, with blustery winds, passing showers and spells of sunshine, all part and parcel of one of the toughest disciplines on the racing calendar. On a distinctive course of two contrasting halves – first section compact, dry and firm, second section waterlogged, muddy and treacherous, and measuring slightly shorter than the advertised 4km, the stage was set for an exciting afternoon of relay racing. The race also saw several Greenock athletes make their cross-country debut, gaining valuable experience as they joined teammates in launching the new season.

JUNIOR RACE
It was an excellent display by the Glenpark Boys’ as they narrowly missed out on a top 10 finish at the West District XC championships at Kilmarnock. Elijah Taylor got the team underway on leg 1, and after beginning steadily, he soon started catching tiring runners to come home in 18th position. Zach McAllister kept the momentum going, as he too picked up the tempo, and a couple of places, in the 2nd half of his race to set up Josh Deegan on the anchor leg. Josh didn’t disappoint as he began to haul in the teams in front, gradually taking the team home in 11th. Isaac Robin continued his recent run of good form in the incomplete B team.
An inexperienced Glenpark Girls’ team ran above expectations over the 2.5km twisting trail, especially Fearne Hampsey on the opening leg, who kept the team in contention in the top half of the field, with B team runner Lily McCall not far behind. Gritty effort from both Isabel Lafferty and Orla Trainer rounded off a solid performance by the A team to finish in 34th. Completing the B team, and showing plenty of promise was Lily Davies who was making her xc debut.

Results:

  • Elijah Taylor 9.25, Zach McAllister 8.38, Josh Deegan 7.59, Isaac Robin 9.09.
Fearne Hampsey 10.54, Isabel Lafferty 11.03, Orla Trainer 10.35, Lily McCall 11.18, Lily Davies 11.37
