Olivia Devine was racing in Edinburgh on Sunday 22nd September 2024. Having set a sub 50 minute 10km as her main 2024 goal and was looking good for a bash at it earlier in the year but injury and other circumstances got in the way pre summer.
With the goal firmly still in her sights she was confident that either the Women’s 10km or the Great Scottish Run in October 2024 would give her two great opportunities for a new PB.
Training had been going well but with a lingering cold she set out to enjoy a run in the capital and look forward to the GSR. Setting off with the 50min pacer but leaving them behind after finding a good rhythm just 2 km in, Olivia ran to feel and tried not to let her watch run her race. A tough climb up the Royal Mile at about half way was helped by the local crowds and Olivia dug in over the closing stages. Near perfect conditions minus the wind over the last 500 metres ensured full effort to the finish line. Olivia’s smashed her previous PB of 51.58 and her 50 minute target by running a fantastic time of 48.27. ( a 3min 31 improvement)
